Kids Practice
The Checkers A.C Youth Club practices at the same locations and time as the Checkers Adults do.
While the adults' practices are on the track, the youth group practices on the infield of the track.
There is no age limit for the group, as long as the kids behave and listen (we have children as young as 3).
Practices start with a short run for a warm-up, and then we proceed to dynamic stretching, followed by ladder work and then small hurdles.
We move on to drills where we emphasize proper running technique (proper arm swing and leg stride).
Drills consist of using multiple cones, resistance bands and parachutes.
In these drills kids will run forward, back peddle and side shuffle.
While the kids get great exercise they are also having fun learning.
In a side note all coaches involved with the youth program have taken and completed the USATF Safe Sport Program and have passed a FBI background check which is mandatory with USATF when dealing with athletes under the age of 16.
